President

Denny Brown has more than 30 years experience with software technology in commercial and academic environments.

He was one of the founders of Coherent Thought, Inc., a vendor of application-specific expert-system tools. At Coherent Thought, he was responsible for professional services including documentation and training development, hotline telephone support, consulting, and application-development assistance.

Denny was also one of the first employees of Teknowledge, Inc., a pioneer company in the development of commercial expert-system technology. As Vice President of Knowledge Engineering at Teknowledge, he managed an application-development group that built custom expert systems under contract. The group grew from 13 to 50 people in two years and was responsible for producing many of the earliest examples of successful, commercial expert systems. Customers included General Motors, Procter and Gamble, Motorola, and MONY. As Vice President of Education and Training at Teknowledge, Denny created the first commercially available training programs for expert-system technology. He was also responsible for developing documentation for the initial versions of Teknowledge's software products.

Before Teknowledge, Denny was Associate Chairman of the Computer Science Department at Stanford University. He was responsible for the teaching programs, both graduate and undergraduate, delivered by the department. He developed and taught a variety of introductory programming courses.

In addition to his role as President of Expert Support, Denny sometimes gets to do billable work for customers. He does management consulting and training, group facilitation, and other "soft skills" development. He has helped some of our start-up customers with funding proposals, organizational development, and other early stage activities.

Denny's outside interests include playing baseball in an over-35 hardball league. He manages the Antiques, a team of really old guys, mostly 48 or older.

He is the proud grandfather of Faith, Zach, Luke, and Grace.
