Technical Writer and Software Developer
Michael has been working the information technology world for much of the past 20 years,
and applying his talents in many different areas of that world, including: software development,
business consulting and application design, technical writing, and teaching.
With Expert Support since 2001, Michael was part of a team documenting a large networking
system at a major semiconductor manufacturer. Michael's primary responsibility was for the
software component of the system. Because his technical background helped him to quickly
understand the system, Michael was able to work easily with engineering and marketing to
design and implement the documentation set for the product.
Michael's recent software experience has focused primarily on designing and developing
custom data-driven Web applications using ASP (both ASP 3.0 and ASP.NET) and SQL Server 2000.
Michael has also developed Microsoft Access applications for several clients.
Michael taught introductory programming courses at the University of Wisconsin while
earning a Master's degree in Computer Science. Prior to that, he was a consultant on
the East coast, working for large corporations including Citibank, Reuters, and Goldman Sachs.
For these companies, Michael designed software solutions, wrote system specifications, led the
teams developing the applications, and wrote end-user documentation.
Michael also spent several years living in India doing volunteer work. For five of
those years, he was the director of a meditation retreat center in India.
